And she wondered why the bright sky darkened when the sun fell. She lay in the meadows shortly after sundown. Arms crossed behind her head she stared at the night sky. Could she get lost trying to count stars? Her eyes danced around, her mind at peace with the looming silence. She had ventured up the pass to the meadows, the one place she could feel comfortable. She kept a secret like a lock with no key. For several long years she had played the part, acting as a man for the sake of her fathers sanity. Even after his death, she felt obligated to pretend to be her brother.
How many years had she gone without using her own name. The half elf rolled in the grass. Fate had been kind with blessing her a androgynous voice and appearance. To kind, perhaps. Her time at the academy was only short, but in that time she had settled in as Vox Snow. The half elf sat up and stared back at the sky. The night was so cold and welcoming. It was nice to get away from the chaos of school. No one would bother her way up here on the mountain. She brushed back her tousled brown hair. What was it like even to return to a life as a female. Knees met her chin as she curled into a ball. And she wondered time and time again if it was even worth it.
She had no friends, thanks to her introverted choice in lifestyle. It was easier to have no friends and keep a promise to her father. The more people she let in, the more chances her secret would be discovered. Vox pressed her lips together. The plants around her sang the song of sleep as their petals shut tight for the night. Tonight was a good night to escape from the school for solace. She reached out and tapped on a closed flower. You are so lucky to just be able to shut out the world's problems. I only wish I could." The plant twitched in response. A sigh slipped from her lips as she forced herself to stand. "It will just be another day." She drew her arms around her. It was silent, save for the final yawns of the flowers around her. If only she could savor the silence.
And she wondered, time after time, how long for it to take before her world fell apart. (OOC: Just a friendly reminder that no one knows that Vox is a female.)

It was now turning into evening and Ferr took a long look at the sky. The shades and hues reminded him of beautiful works of art that his brother once painted. It seemed like the introduction to an old story his father once told him about. The stars in the sky stared back at him like diamond eyes in far away abyss. Since his admission into Avalon, Ferr had slowly gotten over a few emotional hurtles. Gaining acquaintances and the like while diving into his studies. He thought about sending a letter to his family to tell them how he was doing. But that would mean getting back to the school first.
As he walks on the boarder of the meadow on his way back to the school, Ferr kept his hands in his pockets to keep warm. The mage didn't mean to keep himself out this long, but when you are assigned to assist a teacher collect some herbology samples, you can't over look anything. He took a moment and paused himself as stood in the flowers and chilling air. His hairs stood on ends, causing his skin to crawl. Ferr quickly rolled down his sleeves and rubbed his hands. The small basket of flowers in his hand getting in his way.
The student began walking after through the meadow to the school but found another person hugging themselves in the center of the menagerie of flora. Ferr couldn't get a clear view of them but it seemed they were just standing there. Waving over, Ferr called out to the student and began walking up to them. Not with a yell since it was getting late and he thought it would be slightly disorienting. "Hey you there." His voice traveled through the cold air and across the flowers. The Mage stopped a few feet away from the half-elf and placed his hands at his hips. "I know it is a very pretty scene. But it is getting dark for the day. I would recommend getting back to the school and to your dorm. Aye?"

Her eyes glittered with surprise. She heard the flowers wail in deafening screeches. She felt a pulse of life surge through the plants and she stood quickly. Her eyes dance across the meadow. She heard no one, only the muttering screams of the flowers being awoken from their slumber. During the time she felt the meadows had been empty, there was someone else. How had she not seen them, or they her? Or was it just an animal making their way to their den. Vox pursed her lips. Hands on hip she turned to stare at the patch of flowers at her feet. Go back to sleep, she urged with a soothing thought.
A shiver ran through her and she wrapped her arms around herself. Maybe she should have worn warmer clothes. Teeth clicking together marked the early stages of teeth chattering. A small sigh broke her silence. Maybe it was time to go back to school. She had enough alone time and the flowers needed the rest. The half-elf grinned and crossed her arms behind her head. She needed a good night walk. Just as she thought of walking back, a voice cut through the silence. Not quite a yell but enough to make the half-elf jump, Vox turned to face the source. A man, a human from what she could tell, approached her. They were a curious race. She preferred to deal with them than high elves. There was something about him, something magical, but she couldn't decide what. Not just yet, she mused.
Noting the way he placed his hands on his hips, she mocked him. Vox took quick note of his flower basket. She peeked only a little, guessing which herb was which. Was he a collector? Or did he major in herbology. Vox decided not to worry on that. “I'm not too worried about the approaching darkness.” Deciding that she wasn't going to take to being told what to do, Vox took a few steps toward the human looking creature. Her hands on hips mocking gesture turned to fists on hips as her expression darkened. “No matter that, why should I go back? Perhaps I am content with staring at these 'pretty flowers', as you put it.” She pursed her lips. And that, she wondered, was why she had no friends. Perhaps sheathing her tongue would get her further in the life that seemed to demand some sort of companionship.

"Ugh." The young man said before massaging the bridge of his nose. From his long day of, hunting flowers, Ferr was already a little drained. Plus the night was taking hold. He had not enough energy to combat the boy nor go though a whole retain of explanations and such. Plus he was being mocked, so Ferr knew the longer he spoke and stood there the longer and higher the chance of this guy making fun of him. The guy could tell that this boy was one to go against what others said to him. Probably a rebel from what little he had already said to Ferr.
"Well if you are so content to stay out in the cold of the night be my guest, dear fellow. But I am sure their might be some rules or something about being out at night. But who needs warm beds and clean rooms when you have...Dirt." The Sourcerer looked down and pointed at a mound that stood at his foot's side. "But I digress. Have a wonderful and lovely time out side and..." As Ferr was about to go on a strong wind picked up and blew pass him. He covered his eyes, at the same time raising his arm and the basket. The basket's led was flung open by the wind, leading for the flowers to be exposed.
This led to a few flowers being picked up by the wind and flying out of the basket. As the wind died done he watched as the petals fluttered in the cold air and disappeared among the rest. A sigh escaped his pale lips before he placed a hand on his head. With a grunt he just looked at the half-elf, seemingly boy, and looked away. I swear if he says something... he thought before trailing off. Ferr knelt down to the ground and started to recollect his materials. It was difficult in the dark, but the moon provided some assisted light. His arms began to quake from the cold. "Damn it is cold at night. I can't be bothered with this." He muttered before hastily picking up the dying petals and leaves.

She examined her nails, green eyes dancing with mischief. She couldn't place why she thought to annoy him. Pushing people away just seemed to be in her nature. It was always best to play it safe. The half-elf smiled a small smile and let her hand fall to her side. She examined the boy in front of her. Dark in appearance, he wasn't exactly the type of guy she found attractive. Not many caught her eye. She laughed softly to herself. Most guys wanted a girl, not a girl who played the part as a guy. Vox watched him massage his nose. She must have managed to irritate him in some form. When he began to spout some foolery about rules and being out late, Vox made a gagging noise.
"Rules? I prefer to think of them as suggestions." She mocked quotation marks as she said suggestions. Vox stared at the mound of dirt that he pointed to. She cocked a brow. "I can deal with dirt. Never bothered me one bit! Besides, with dirt, I can do..." She held her hand toward the mound and a small sprout sprouted causing the mound to crumble a bit. Vox wondered why she was being so contrary toward this student, and she decided it was simply due to the fact that he had told her to do something. Although he hadn't actually commanded her to go back to the school, just being told to do it sparked a flame in her mind. The half elf squared her shoulders and decided she would just tell him to screw off and let bygones be bygones.
The wind picked up, knocking her hood down to her shoulders. Vox ruffled her short hair some and glanced at the other student. The wind had done more damage to him that it had to her. Wind was a cruel mistress, and humanoids her play things. Her eyes followed the drifting petals to the ground, followed by a soft snort. “Being such a braw laddie and you let the wind take advantage of you.” Vox knelt down and moved to assist the student in picking up the petals. She held a petal between her fingers. “Glad I ain't the only one who enjoys flowers.” she said with a mocking smile.

"They are not for me." Ferr said with a sighed before he placed the colorful petals back into the basket. He gently took the few that the supposed 'boy' had gathered and tossed them into the basket as well. "These are just ingredients one of the teachers asked for someone to gather. I took the liberty of assisting my instructor. I might get extra credits or whatever but at least it is something." The sorcerer looked up at the moon. It looked so big on a night like tonight. It brought a small smirk to the man's face before he stood up and patted the dirt off of his legs. He took a quick glance at the new plant that had grown out of the dirt mound. Interesting.
Ferr felt another chill crawl up his spin. He blew his breath into his hands and rubbed them together in an attempt to keep his gloved hand from getting any colder. He thought about using some magic to warm himself up, but decided it would be too much work just to get a little toasty. Making a rune would be easy in itself, but he was not planning to stay outside much longer anyway if he had anything to do with it.
Ferr prepared to urge this stranger to get back to the dorms, but then thought about his reason for being outside at this time. Did he also have to do something for an instructor or something like that? Or maybe it was just a race thing? "What are you even doing out here?" Ferr finally asked. "Do all elves just make magical plants sprout up from the ground and then isolate themselves in nature? If so than man stereotypes must be getting more accurate. I mean I do remember meeting a pretty egotistical high elf once." The student crossed his arms before turning away.
Ferr gave the other student a sideways glanced. A guy that likes flowers, even if it was coming from an elvish person, still did seem right to him. But he shrugged and rolled his eyes at the matter. "I jest. I am just joking about the who race thing. Though I stand my ground when I say you should get back to your dorm. Just a suggestion after all. I can't force ya to do anything."

She didn't want to admit that she felt the cold. Tiny bumps spread across her pale skin. She could feel the cold sink in to her bones but she refused to admit that she was cold. Vox rubbed her arm in an attempt to make the blood was flowing. Maybe next time she trekked out of the warmth of the school she would bring more than just the light weight hooded tunic. Her eyes glanced at the boy as he straightened up. She wanted to tell him that there was no shame in wearing dirt. Vox bit her cheek. Maybe another time.
She stuffed her hands in the deep pockets of her tunic. Maybe she should go back to the school. Who knew what monsters actually lurked outside. Vox had to admit that she would be easy prey for a stealthy vampire or a chew toy for a rabid werewolf. She shuddered at the thought. The half-elf tilted her head to the side. She wondered if the other student would mind if she tagged a long with him. Maybe jumping to the conclusion that he was bossy had been a slight mistake. She laughed softly to herself. Maybe..
As she thought of asking him, she finally caught his words. Racial slurs bothered her. She wasn't a proud elf because she wasn't a full elf. Vox raised her shoulders and her eyes sparkled with an oncoming rage. When he brought up a high elf, she felt herself twitch. “Don't even use a racial slur against me and one against a high elf in the same sentence.” She gritted her teeth. “You are quite right about the latter. A pure blood Wood Elf would find that slur as a compliment, however I am not a pure blood.” She felt herself snarl out the last portion of her sentence.
Vox spun on toe and started walking It took her more than a minute that she was walking in the wrong direction. “Oh look! Your jest has sent me in the wrong direction. You people are all the same.” She crossed her arms. “Pretty flowers my arse. Just be glad I have no seeds on me for those retched smelling flowers.” Vox kicked at the ground, her body lightly shaking from a rage she didn't understand.
