HUMANS
people like you and me. they are the minority in the school, often thought of as misfits and laughingstocks among the other immortal magical folk, but those who do attend often posses unique psychic and elemental abilities. psychics/espers: their powers often start off as something small like telekinesis, but humans with one gift often have a whole package waiting to be unwrapped. for one reason or another, they can use parts of their brains that ordinary people can't, and if their abilities are honed, they can become quite powerful. ex: telepathy, mind-reading, illusions, clairvoyance, psychokinesis, mind control.
elementals: these are humans who are able to use their psychic abilities to control a certain element in nature, but only that element. they may not be able to read minds, but they are often skilled in unique areas. ex: fire, water, air, electricity, earth.
ELVEN FOLK elves are slightly taller than humans, but have a much lighter build. they lack the strength and stamina of the other races, but are far more agile, both in body and mind. they are immortal unless their life is taken by brute force. among the elves are the forest elves, the dark elves, and the high elves. forest elves: by far, the most common of the elves. they are a peaceful race with an affinity for nature, having a special bond with the flora and fauna in the world around them. the often have earth-related abilities, such as helping plants grow.
dark elves/drow: unlike their peaceful counterparts, dark elves are known for their warrior spirits. long ago, the high elves banished them into the shadows of the forest, where they learned to control the darkness. like other elves, they also have a natural born affinity for nature, though they have also mastered sacred darkness manipulation and shadow mimicry.
high elves: the most powerful and pure breed of the elven kin, albeit extremely rare. it is said they can purify any evil, often possessing advanced healing abilities. like the forest elves, they are gentle and can connect in astounding ways to the natural world; however, they are rather bitter toward humans.
VAMPIRES animated corpses that need your blood to keep walking. they are pale and inhumanly beautiful, most having a certain charm about them. Some vampires are confined inside during the day, but others that are more powerful can walk in the sunlight just as easily as a human. they are generally thought of as seducers or manipulators. most of their abilities are mind based. pure-bloods: the strongest rank of vampires, bred by the purest of vampiric bloodlines. they have mastered control over their urges and can withstand long periods without feeding. when they do feed, they often imprint on a single human for their blood source. a willing blood slave. they are immortal unless staked in their shallow-beating hearts.
half-bloods: a very dangerous type of vampire. they were once human, but rather than dying from the venomous bite, they somehow survived the blood loss and turned. they often have much poorer control over their urges and are more likely to feed on unwilling humans. anything to satiate their appetite. pure-bloods say they give their kind a bad name. WEREWOLVES a strange human and lupine race. some were born into a pack with this unique shifting ability, while others were turned, having been human at one point in their lives. most of the time they will appear as no more than an ordinary human, but during a full moon they have no choice but to change into their wolf counterpart. they are immortal to everything but silver wolves: most wolves cannot control their transformations. intense emotions, such as anger, can provoke their wolf-like instincts and turn them animal in a matter of seconds. when this happens, they lose touch with their human side and who they are. they become a beast. they were born wolves, and they will always be more wolf than human.
shifters: on the other hand, shifters can exercise control over majority of their transformations, and some even claim to be able to maintain touch with their human selves while in wolf form. most shifters started out human and were turned after being bitten. even they, however, are not immune to the allure of the full moon. SORCERERS a rare race that has the born ability to use magic. they often appear very human, but don't let their guise fool you. there are good sorcerers and there are bad sorcerers – the trouble is telling them apart. they often have one magical area in which they are skilled, whether it be curses or spells. they live a few hundred years longer than humans, often finding ways to lengthen their lives by using magic, but they are not immortal. mages/wizards: mages and wizards use their powers for the sole purpose of good intent. the spells they learn are designed are not designed to harm, but instead assist. they often discover these abilities when they are a child, and no, their spells aren't a bunch of gibberish involving rat tails and bat blood, but rather remarkable mental abilities. they do not need a wand to cast a spell, though sometimes this helps young mages and wizards learn to direct the focus of their spells.
witches/warlocks: the dark counterparts of mages and wizards. their bloodline isn't any different, nor are they born any darker. it's a path they chose for themselves along the way. their spells are offensive rather than defensive, and they know a variety of curses and hexes. most of the dark magic they practice isn't designed to harm, but for self-preservation, though should the wrong curse fall into the wrong hands, someone with malevolent intent could cause great harm to another.
GUARDIANS they are pure spirits, sometimes called angels or light-bringers. they are normally associated with light and healing. as cliche as it sounds, yes, they have white feathery wings, though the naked eye cannot see these. only the pure of heart and other guardians can glimpse the godly feathers on their backs. they are perhaps the strongest of all the races. it is said that even if their body is destroyed, their souls forever live on and take a new form. the names of guardian's must end in the holy letters 'el'. they have no surnames. MONSTERS some came from underground, others were given a bloody birth on earth. the best thing to call them would probably be demons. a rare few appear mortal, but most bear animalistic and inhuman qualities. some are said to be so hideous that they hide their true form because it is either too large or too terrifying to bring to class. many possess impish qualities, mischievous and unruly, and can be dangerous when a careful eye isn't keeping watch on them. monsters often take on names from demon theology. they have no surname. OTHERS do you have an idea that isn't on the list? pm me or voxy for approval and we'll let you know if it's okay or not. creativity is a big thing here, but we just want to make sure it's at least somewhat realistic. you know, as realistic as you can get in a school full of vampires and elves. some examples of other species may be halfings, shifters, faeries, mythical creatures, etc. we do not allow ghosts, gods and goddesses, or completely made up creatures that do things like shoot death beams out of their eyes. laugh.
